(Analog) photography is the place where light’s dual nature is synthesized on the surface of a material substrate. It exists both over time and as object. On the photographic plane the moment continues (potentially) to move across time; an index of an instant and the material history of an object. It is, too, having been eclipsed by digital encoding, the result of a technological history both scientific and aesthetic, which increasingly defines in Rosalind Krauss’ terms a medium as a structural rather than a material support.
