Having converted the 30 body positions of the semaphore system into wave forms, we designed a font usable in any Roman-alphabet text system, and “translated” the last chapter of Brinig’s novel into a continuous wave form. In late 2023 we returned to exposing photo-lithographic plates with the sun, translating the wave system into patterns of enlarged halftone dots via a purpose-built “wave machine” that works at changing angles to produce 30 patterns; combined plates display all 30 figures, and we are now making short “flicker films” that recall the structural films of the 1960s and ’70s.
