Projection

Projection — a. an image thrown by light: the magic lantern and its heir the slide projector—a box, a light and a lens; the OED ties projection to the eye itself: “an image or representation of an object formed on a surface (originally esp. the retina) from elsewhere.” Projection exits through difference, a source concentrated enough against a surround dark enough; the shadows on the cave wall were in the sense of Herzog’s Cave of Forgotten Dreams “protocinema.” b. the casting of three dimensions onto two, including perspectival, and the projective geometry as Brunelleschi (1377–1446)first set out, as well as other technical forms—axonometric, isometric, etc.
